Trail Maintenance Training

Saturday, October 23, 2021

We are going to have a trail maintenance training on Saturday, October 23rd. We'll meet at 9:00 at the parking area by the Lake Maumelle Spillway on the Ouachita Trail. To get there, take Hwy 300 past Pinnacle Mountain. Go toward Roland, cross the bridge and turn left on Spillway road where Hwy 300 takes a hard right. Go about 1/2 mile to the parking on the right side of the road.

The training will stress working on the Trail Tread mainly to decrease erosion on the trail. As trail runners, trail erosion is of particular interest because that determines how smooth the trail is and stays for years to come.

Please wear boots and bring gloves for safety. Also bring any equipment that might be useful to working on the trail including: McCloud, Mattock, Pulaski, Pick, Shovel, Root rake, Fire Rake or anything else that might be useful. Also bring water and any trail snacks you might want.

Anyone interested should watch the Forest Service's Basic Trail Maintenance video prior to the training. It can be accessed by going to the FoOT website. It is under the FoOT Organization tab and the Trail Maintenance Guidelines and Training. It's about 30 minutes and very informative.
