14-Mile Brushheap Mountain Challenge

Albert Pike Recreation Area

Winding Stairs Trailhead parking lot

Directions:

Travel 6 Miles North of Langley, Arkansas on Hwy 369

Entering Camp Albert Pike area, go left on Road 106 and follow two miles

No fees, no frills, no advance registration required

Limited aid will be available on the course.  It is highly advised that you CARRY A WATER BOTTLE!!!

 

Route Description:

- Start at Winding Stairs trailhead.  Enter the Little Missouri Trail and cross Blaylock Creek.  Continue 2.4 miles on Little Missouri Trail, crossing Little Missouri River into the “Winding Stairs” area.  Continue another 0.6 mile along “Wild” Little Missouri River.  Right on Viles Branch Trail, cross Little Missouri River followed by 13 crossings of Viles Branch over 3.5 miles.  Right on Athens-Big Fork Historic Postal Service Trail over Brushy and Brushheap Mountains for 3.2 miles.  Right on Road 106 for 4.1 miles back to the Winding Stairs trailhead.
